Tonsils and Adenoids Be Gone!

Finally after more than a year and a lot of colds and plenty of snoring Carson got his tonsils and adenoids out a week ago today. Why did it take over a year? Well, let me tell you. We originally saw Tyke Skedros whom our pediatrician recommended and Blake took him to the appointment. I can't remember why i didn't join I am guessing that it was something pretty important. Blake came home saying he didn't care for the Dr., he didn't seem overly impressed to do anything and put Cars on a reflux medicine. A reflux medicine? really? I am thinking that at the time when we explained Carson's symptoms we had mentioned that when he would drink his bottles he would sometimes gag (because he couldn't breathe through his nose) and would throw up. This I supposed equalled to him having reflux. Well the medicine was expensive, Carson refused to take it and we were 95% sure he didn't have reflux.  Time passed on and we lived our lives. A few months ago Carson has decided that he doesn't want to sleep in his room anymore and has taken residence sleeping on the floor next to our bed. Having him in such close quarters we quickly realized that this poor kid seriously can not breathe! He snores like crazy, stops breathing, gasps for air and wakes himself up. We recently went back to our pediatrician for a 6mth well child exam (we go every 6 mths because he is so small, instead of the usual yearly). I once again brought up that this child cannot breathe when he sleeps and there is for sure something wrong.  My pediatrician agreed once again and told me I could go back to Skedros or choose another ENT for a second opinion. I decided to choose a different ENT after he suggested a few others he liked.  We met with Dr. John Bitner (he is also in facial plastic surgery now as well) two weeks ago and he was wonderful and said "I don't think we should mess around anymore and lets take care of it" That was music to my ears! Not that I want my child to have surgery but I want him to be able to breathe!! A week later we were at the surgical center getting it taken care of.  The surgery was about 40 minutes and Dr. Bitner came out and took me back and explained that the surgery had gone well and that Carson's tonsils were not overly large, but that he had a very large adenoid on one side and said we would notice a vast improvement in his breathing. Once again, music to my ears. It was just a comforting feeling and confirmation that I had made the right choice. He is a fabulous Dr. and now I know that when I need a face lift I will call him up. haha. We are exactly a week out and it hasn't been the easiest but it could for sure be worse. We can already tell a great improvement with our little guy and am crossing my fingers that maybe he will start eating better as well.  We go in 3 weeks for our check up and then will go from there. Hopefully in the near future there will be a lot less waking up in the middle of the night going on in the Anderson home!
